[How To] Enable Secure 2-Step Verification for Yahoo Mail

Yahoo Mail Logo

Yahoo mail is still widely used by people all around the globe and I’m sure everyone has a Yahoo account. Yahoo has finally added 2-step verification for its accounts, which means you can further secure your Yahoo account by adding an extra layer of security to your account. The 2 step verification process was initially introduced by Google in February, now Yahoo too has added this feature.

What is 2-Step Verification?

Two step verification basically adds an extra layer of security to your account, which means even if anyone knows/guesses/steals your password they cannot access your account unless they have access to your phone.

It is recommended that everyone enables 2-step verification for their accounts to secure and protect it from unauthorized access. To set up 2-step verification for your Yahoo account point your browser to this address - https://edit.yahoo.com/commchannel/sec_chal_manage

Check the box and then you will be shown a screen wherein you have to enter your mobile number. You can also use the mobile number you previously added to your account for verification. (*Note: Enter your own mobile number because this will be used to verify your account and you cannot login until you verify your account using the verification code.)

Once you set up mobile verification you can now choose whether to use your mobile number or security question for verification.

You only need to verify your account when you login from another machine. If you’re on your regular machine you won’t be asked to verify your account.

This feature is still in beta and is only available to users of India, Canada, Philippines and United States and will be slowly rolled out to the users of other countries.
