Downgrade BIOS of a ASUS Motherboard using AFUDOS Utility

ASUS BIOS downgrade

If you are having problems or you find bugs with the new version of BIOS on your ASUS motherboard then you might be considering to reflash with an older version of BIOS you previously had, but the EZFLASH utility which you can find in your BIOS settings does not allow you to downgrade your BIOS.

I recently had a problem with the LAN after I updated my motherboards BIOS and wanted to revert to the older version of the BIOS so I used AFUDOS Engineering edition utility to flash my BIOS to an older version and successfully flashed my BIOS without any problems.

Things You'll Need:

  • AFUDOS Engineering Edition. [Click here to Download]

Note :

  • You should only downgrade the BIOS if you have problems with your current BIOS, or you should check more a more recent/newer version of the BIOS available at the ASUS support website.
  • A failure to update the BIOS due to power cut or any other type of interruption can lead to a dead computer so never interrupt the BIOS update process.
  • Flash only with model specific version of BIOS available from the ASUS support website, do not download it from any other source. Motherboard model no. can be identical for Eg. P5G41CM and P5G41CM-LX. Make sure you verify and download the BIOS which matches your motherboards model no. only.
  • Disclaimer: Flashing the BIOS incorrectly may lead to an unusable system, you may consider taking help from a knowledgeable person who can guide you through the flashing process. Flash the BIOS at your own risk.

Steps To Downgrade Asus Motherboard BIOS

Step 1: After you have made your USB stick bootable, copy the AFUDOS utility and the extracted BIOS file [with extension .ROM] you downloaded to the MS DOS Bootable USB stick.

Step 2: Insert the USB stick to your computer and restart your computer. [Note: Your computer must support booting from a USB stick/Removable media if it doesn't boot with the USB stick check your Boot order and select "Removable Media" as the 1st preferred boot option and restart your system.

Step 3: Boot from the USB flash drive and then enter afudos /i[name of BIOS file] without quotes, the verification and update process will begin and the BIOS usually gets updated in 10-30 seconds.

Step 4: [Important] Clear the CMOS by removing the CMOS battery and then again plugging it after sometime or by resetting the CMOS jumper. Have a look at the video on how to clear CMOS:

Step 5: Restart your system.

  1. thanks .... but you need to rename the ROM file to DOS format first as I was updating with "P5P43TD-PRO-ASUS-0706.ROM" I have to rename it to"p5p43td.ROM" ..then it worked ..
