[How To] Change Address Bar Search Provider In FireFox

Firefox Logo
When you perform a search from Firefox's address bar, Firefox defaults uses Google as the default search provider for search results. Unlike Chrome you cannot change the default search provider in Firefox from the settings easily. If you installed a toolbar it may have changed the default search provider in Firefox which you may not want and change as different users might prefer another search engine.

To start type "about:config" without quotes in the address bar of Firefox and hit enter, ignore any warning messages that might pop-up.
Enter "keyword.url" without quotes in the filter field and you should now see 1 result.
Now double-click on the result you see and a dialogue box asking you for a value should pop-up.
Enter the value of your desired search engine, below are some search engine values:
  1. Google: http://www.google.com/search?&q=
  2. Bing: http://www.bing.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=
  3. Yahoo: http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=
  4. Ask: http://www.ask.com/web?q=
You may also add other search engines in the above field. Just search for your desired search engine and add the value in the dialogue box.
