Nowadays many people are flashing their phones with a CFW (Custom Firmware). The CFW replaces the existing firmware on your phone with a new one. With a CFW you will get full access to your phone i.e. you can install hacked applications on your phone, which is not possible with the firmware which comes with your phone. Before starting with the flashing process please ensure there are no power cut offs when you are with the flashing process, for safety connect your desktop with a UPS or flash your phone using your laptop.
Please Note: I have ensured that this tutorial is correct and to the best of my knowledge, and I take no responsibility if your phone gets bricked. Please follow the instructions and steps carefully.
Windows XP. (If you are a Windows 7/Vista user use compatibility mode under Windows XP)
.NET Framework 2.0 (pre-installed in 7)
Windows Installer 3.1 (pre-installed in windows 7)
Nokia Ovi suite
JAF Flashing tool and PKEY emulator
Navifirm
If you have a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic I recommend this CFW for stability and performance.
I'm personally using this CFW for my 5800 XM.
It is based on V52/C6v20 by Upakul.
The CFW is available HERE
Install Ovi suite and back up your phone (Important ! Needed for the latest drivers and avoid problems at a later stage)
Delete these folders first from your memory card (Resource, sys, system, private)
Download original firmware Files with Navifirm
Start Navifirm, select your phone>now select the latest version availale>Variant>download.
Here, my phone is Nokia 5800 XpessMusic RM-356. So i selected the latest firmware available for my phone.
Now, Copy all the firmware files you downloaded to : "C:\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-356\" Create the folders: Phoenix\Products\RM-356 in the same hierarchy if they don't exist.
Custom Firmware doesn’t provide every single file that is needed for your phone, this is why we need to download original firmware files using Navifirm.
Change the CFW file names, according to your original firmware files name (from RM-356 folder).
If the file that you downloaded from Navifirm has the file name (RM356_551.0.006_026_003_U21.uda.fpsx), For E.g.), then rename the custom firmware .fpsx file to the same (RM-356_51.0.006_026_000_U01.uda.fpsx) in a temp directory and then overwrite.
Now,
Install JAF 1.98.62
Extract JAF P-key emulator to the desktop
Connect your phone in PC Suite mode
Start PKEY emulator and click on "GO" (You may need to start PKEY emulator in compatibility mode if you are a windows 7/Vista user)
Now you will get an error box like the one below: Click Ok and proceed further.
JAF will start up now select the BB5 tab. Uncheck "CRT 308". Check "Manual Flash", "Dead USB" and "Use INI".
Now a pop up box will appear, select your phone model from this list.
Now, you will see that the MCU, PPM, CNT, APE Variant indicators have turned green.
If not then check if you have placed the files in the folder correctly and renamed them appropriately.
Now, check twice if everything is right and proceed, click on FLASH !
A warning dialog box will appear, click YES.
Switch OFF your phone and then press power button for 1 second and release. Don't hold it, or it will start your phone.
JAF will detect your phone and the flashing process will now start, the process takes around 1-2 minutes, Don't touch your phone when the flashing process is in progress or remove the USB cable since this can brick your phone.
NOTE: If you are flashing with Xtension(mentioned earlier by me), then the process is much easier.
You just need these files,
CORE: Download
UDA: Download
Xtension ROFS2: Download
Rename the core file, from .C00 to .C0r
Run jaf, tick manual flash and dead phone and untick crt 308
In the BB5 tab, select MCU and select the core file (which you have renamed to c0r), than PPM, and select the rofs2 file and finally select APE Variant and select the uda file, and then flash
The files in the folder should look like this:
